Junagadh Fort, also known as Uparkot Fort, is one of the oldest and most important places in Junagadh. It was built a long time ago, in 319 BCE, by Chandragupta Maurya. The fort has been attacked 16 times, and once it was even under siege for 12 years!

Inside the fort, there are many interesting things to see:

• Adi-Kadi Vav & Navghan Kuwo: These are two stepwells that are very old. Adi-Kadi Vav is made from just one stone, and Navghan Kuwo is a very deep well, 52 meters deep. It features a spiral staircase going down.
• Buddhist Caves: These caves were made around the 2nd century. Buddhist monks used to stay here and meditate during the rainy season.
• Nilam & Manek Canons: These big cannons arrived from Egypt in 1538 to fight the Portuguese forces.

Girnar Hills is a very old volcanic mountain. This hill is important for both Hindus and Jains. The hill offers a beautiful mix of nature and spirituality. If you want to reach the top, you’ll need to climb 9,999 steps. It might be tough, but the views and feeling of achievement will make it worth it!

Jain Temples

About halfway up, at around 4,000 steps, you will find 16 stunning marble temples. The largest and most famous among them is the Neminath Temple, which was built in the 12th century.

Important Peaks

• Ambaji: A sacred temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess.
• Gorakhnath: The highest peak in Gujarat, standing at an elevation of 1,117 meters.
• Dattatreya: The final peak, where devotees can see the sacred footprints of Lord Dattatreya.

If climbing thousands of steps feels too challenging, you can take the Girnar Ropeway. It is the longest temple ropeway in Asia and reaches Ambaji Peak in just 7 minutes, offering breathtaking views along the way.

The best time to visit the park is from October to June. However, it is closed during the monsoon season, from June 16 to October 15. If you can’t get a permit to enter the main park, you can visit the Devalia Safari Park. It is open every day except Wednesdays throughout the entire year.
