Dhordo Village In Kutch, Gujarat
Dhordo is a village situated near the Great Rann of Kutch, in Gujarat. It has recently won the "Best Tourism Village 2023". It is a village famous for its cultural richness and simple lifestyle. The Mutwa Muslims, who used to reside in the village, were known for their exceptional embroidery skills as well as Mud Mirror Art. Tourists visiting the village will come across Mud Mirror Art on the wall as well as clothes sold here.
One of the fascinating aspects of Dhordo is the Bhunga house. This type of house is constructed in the form of a circle with a conical roof made of mud. The best thing about this kind of house is that it remains cool in the summer and is also earthquake-resistant. The presence of these kinds of houses reflects the creativity of the locals.

Rann Utsav Experience In Dhordo
The Rann Utsav Experience forms the main reason why most tourists choose to visit Dhordo. This is an annual cultural event hosted by Gujarat Tourism. For the year 2025-2026, the event will begin in late October and end in March. In between this period, tents are constructed around Dhordo.
There are different kinds of tents, ranging from those that offer basic facilities to luxurious ones. People can live in these tents and relax amidst the desert conditions. One of the most fascinating features about the Rann Utsav Experience is its full moon nights. These nights are very attractive due to the glowing desert.
Cultural events take place every evening. The performances include local artists presenting songs and dances such as Garba and Dandiya. This allows tourists to get familiar with the local culture in an entertaining manner. There is a market complex known as “The Haat” where one can purchase handmade crafts such as Ajrakh fabric, Bandhani fabrics, and leather products.
Things To Do In Dhordo
There are many things to do in Dhordo than can be enjoyed besides attending the festival.
- The favorite one among tourists is the experience of exploring the white salt desert. This can be done by hiking or taking a camel cart ride to the salt desert.
- Another activity is to visit the watchtower, which offers an amazing view of the region from far away.
- Other adventurous activities that can be enjoyed include paramotoring, quad bikes, and hot air balloon rides.
- Another tourist attraction that you can pay a visit to is Kalo Dungar, located around 40 km from there. It is the highest point of the region and provides panoramic views of the Rann.
- You can also pay a visit to India Bridge, which is located near the border and requires a permit to visit.
- The other attraction is the Dattatreya Temple, an ancient temple.
- Another famous village is Nirona village, known for its crafts such as Rogan art, copper bells, and lacquerware.
How To Reach Dhordo From Bhuj And Nearby Cities
The distance from Bhuj to Dhordo is around 80 to 85 kilometers. There are several ways to commute to this place. You can take buses or taxis.
One can also take a flight from Mumbai or take Ahmedabad as the midway point for getting to Bhuj. It can also be reached via train from cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai.
From Ahmedabad, you can travel by train or car. The road journey takes around 7 hours.
Important: You need a Rann Permit to visit Dhordo. You can get it online or at the entry checkpost. Always carry your ID proof.
